Stoningland

The name of the land of Gondor in the language of the Rohirrim. It is in fact a direct translation of the Elvish Gondor, which means ‘Stone-land’ (in the sense of a land of people who build in stone). ‘Stoningland’is slightly modernised from the actual form that would have been used in Rohan, whose people would have actually used the phrase Stáning-land.
